Mike Lloyd (viola)

Mike Lloyd studied at the Royal College of Music in London and on leaving in 1979 he joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In 1981 Mike was invited to join the Philharmonia Orchestra as it’s Sub Principal viola and remained there until 2000, playing with most of the foremost conductors and soloists of the day. Whilst there he met Tamas and together they formed the Halvorsen Duo. They have given many concerts together delighting audiences witht the spontaneity of their performances. Mike moved to Scotland in 2000 to take up his current position as Assistant Principal viola with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Despite concentrating most of his musical life on the symphonic repertoire, he has always found time for chamber music, both playing and coaching at various chamber music courses throughout the United Kingdom. Mike also has a business restoring and rehairing bows of the stringed instrument family.
